Penny Newton‑Hurley
Penny Newton‑Hurley has worked in personal and organisational communication for more than 30 years. Her clients span multinational companies, local councils, NHS trusts, the British Army, the RAF, Central Government departments, universities and schools - all united by a need for clearer communication, stronger relationships and healthier workplace cultures.
As founder of CommPassion, Penny is an interpersonal communication and emotional intelligence specialist, coach, trainer, psychological safety facilitator and workplace mediator. Her work helps individuals, teams and communities build empathy, reduce conflict and create more harmonious, human‑centred ways of working and living.
Penny’s lifelong fascination with communication and genuine human connection led her to study Nonviolent Communication, from which she developed The MECAnism - the practical framework at the heart of her book, The Human Language. She believes this approach has the power to transform how we interact with ourselves and others, helping people communicate with more clarity, compassion and confidence. In a world increasingly shaped by Artificial Intelligence, Penny argues that strengthening our human language - the way we think, feel and connect - is essential for our evolution and wellbeing.
